Chihuahua Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar is a newly opened restaurant serving the best Tex-Mex comfort food, located at Makati avenue just across A-venue.
A great place to hang out with friends or simply enjoy good food. Last Monday July 18, I attended the Monday Supper Club’s Mexican Themed event, Guelaguetza or Mondays of the Hill. That evening, I got the chance to meet the owners Chef Elian Habayeb and Ines Cabarrus, co-authors of the best selling coffee book table “Manila’s Best Kept Restaurant Secrets”. Elian, who lived in Houston, Texas for so many years and thus become familiar with authentic Tex-Mex flavors. Elian is a well-know DJ-turned-restaurateur while Ines is one of the country’s leading expert in wine and beverages.
Like other restaurants ordering is done at the counter. Don’t worry, they have a very simple menu board numbered from 1 to 4. First, choose your choice of fillings from Steak, Chicken, Pork or Veggies. Second, tell them if you want Tacos, Burrito, Burrito Bowl or Salad. Third, go for side dish like Mexican Rice, Nacho Grande (which I really love!), Chips and Queso and Tortilla soup. Lastly, choose your drink from Margarita, Michelada, Chihuarita, Beer or soft drinks.
I wanted the chicken burrito that evening but they say that Steak Burrito is a must-try here and it did not disappoint me.
I had Steak Burrito (Php295), and it taste really good. It’s packed with flavors and generous on fillings of soft beans, rice, tomatoes, mayo, some veggie and big chunks of steak which is extremely tender. It’s huge, an order can be shared by two. I even brought home the remaining half. Choices of fillings are chicken, pork carnitas and grilled vegetables. I also had chips with pico de gallo and chipotle.
At the salsa bar just beside the condiments area you’ll find (from top right) pickled Jalapeno peppers, pico de gallo, limes, habanero salsa, tomatillo salsa and chipotle.
The steak burrito is enough for a meal but I suggest you also add Nacho Grande. It has crispy tortilla, cheese, chili con carne, jalapeno, tomatoes and beans perfectly mix with sauces and sour cream. It’s so delicious and flavorful! I did finish the whole thing with a glass of frozen margarita! :)
You’ll definitely find here your favorite beverages. Chihuahua has wide selection of local and imported beverages. They have soda, beer, Magarita or Michelada. If you are adventurous, try their Michelada - number one beer-based drink in Mexico, made with beer on ice, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, Korr and a twist of lime. Chihuarita is a frozen margarita made with 100% Mexican tequila, lime juice and no sugar added. Ay Chihuahua.. your Margarita (Php195) is so delicious! It’s frozen and it’s not sugary sweet.
Chihuahua Mexican grill offers access to their impressive collection of bottled rare hot sauces from the Sauce Library. I like the Tabasco Chipotle pepper sauce, it’s not so hot just perfect for my taste buds. How about you? Do you want to try the CRAZY Mother Pucker’s hot sauce?
For health-conscious, vegetarian or people on a diet regimen, try their fresh salad bowl. Aside from that, I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy listening to Mexican salsa music.
I will definitely go back with my friends. I haven’t try their tacos and the Crazy Mother Pucker Hot sauce. The Nacho Grande is definitely a great appetizer, it easily became a favorite.
