Chef Jackie Ang Po and Carla Abellana for Del Monte Kitchenomics

When I got married, people ask me if I know how to cook and I'm confident to say 'Yes'!. I owe my skills in cooking and inventing new dishes from newspaper clips, free recipe flyers available in the supermarkets, back of can and cookbooks.

Latest addition to my collection, 100 Best Loved Recipes from Del Monte Kitchenomics Cookbook

In 1990's I joined Del Monte Kitchenomics Club. As an old Kitchenomics Club member, I used to received glossy paper, colored printed recipes via regular mail. I also watched Sandy Daza for Del Monte Kitchenomics providing budget-friendly recipes for the family. Why I got interested on this at an early age? Well, When I was in grade six I was tasked to buy our food in nearby public market. My dad would give me like P500 to buy a week supply, he would enumerate items I need to buy, the change will be mine so I need to plan the meal very well. The change will be added to my "baon" for school.

Beef Caldereta, Veggie and Litsong Kawali

I learned cooking techniques shared by chefs on cooking shows, the recipes from being Kitchenomics member. All these years, moving from one place to another until I got married I kept all the Del Monte Kitchenomics Recipes. As a self-proclaimed pro in the kitchen, I don't frequently use cookbooks anymore, as I almost memorize and master all-time family favorite dishes yet I still keep them. I don't have plans of giving them away, lol!

Cooking Red Sinigang using Lock & Lock Ceramic Vitamin Cook Plus

Once in a while I still read the recipes, look at the food photos then I would think of reinventing or modifying the recipe using available resources in the kitchen such as the red sinigang by adding Del Monte Tomato sauce and using fish instead of pork. Gising-gising by adding a little tomato sauce as well. There's a lot to do with Del Monte Tomato sauce. When I ran out of it, I use Del Monte Spaghetti sauce. Because I'm a bit meticulous and OC at home, I only choose brands that can be trusted.
