Home Ideas: How To Start Home Gardening

Last year I had the opportunity to visit several organic farms in the Philippines. It was a memorable trip together with a small group of bloggers and the wonderful people from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI). Listening to the stories of our dear farmers, being served with freshly harvested and organic food are just part of the trip. In between work were sightseeing. The experience has taught me two things: appreciate the noble works of our dear farmers and continue loving and caring for mother Earth.

When I came back from our recent trips in Benguet, Sagada and Bacolod the more I understood the importance of organic farming. Setting up my own garden at home in small pots and containers was the way to start it. Tubs of basil, lettuce, tomatoes, oregano, they are easy to taken care. I wanted to plant herbs, those that can survive the temperature in Metro Manila.

Beautiful plants and ornamental flowers adding color and life to an empty patio, staircase or terrace. Even a small place can get you started growing potted herbs and recycled containers. If you're worry that they would die because of too much heat under the sun, perhaps you can make a tent of sort (greenhouse) to protect them.

An old pot or container filled with different flower petals gives accent to your garden. It will surely be the center of attraction. 

On the other hand, a flowering bougainvillea or santan would be more gorgeous when planted pot marigold, orchids, herbs like thyme or echinacea alongside.

I wish Metro Manila would be less polluted and suitable place for growing plants, organic herbs and other ornamental plants. During our farm tour, I learned that  factors to consider are condition and logistics. Nearby provinces such as Cavite, Batangas, Tagaytay are best examples. Would you consider living in Cavite or those areas I mentioned? I would love to!

Recently, I learned about a countryside-inspired community in Lancaster New City Cavite Mega Manila. The place looks great, it's about 15-20 minutes away from NAIA airport, about an hour or less to Makati and Ortigas (without the traffic).
