The tour reminded me of college years and those days reporting on duty as an ER and MS (ward) nurse. I love my job, I can't help but feel how it is working again inside the the nurses' station.
On our visit, I met Dr. Charles Yu, renowned physician, vice-chancellor of Lasallian Mission and Linkges of DLSHSI
De La Salle Health Science Institute is located in a quiet place in Dasmarinas Cavite surrounded with trees, less noise and air pollution which is definitely conducive for learning.
We walked through a lot of facilities and buildings. One of my favorites though was the Nursing and Midwifery department. Oh, I love their skills/clinical laboratory equipped with the latest facilities such as these.
Delivery room area and there's a separate operating room area.
This is where the newborn have his/her first bath. In a real world, it's also sterile.
It mimics the real nursery room complete with incubator, oxygen tanks and droplet lights.
I felt ecstatic seeing another Nursing/Midwifery clinical laboratory. It mimics the real ICU or Critical Care unit in big hospitals. Here, students performs nursing procedures and practical exams.
On our way to CMRT lab, basic science laboratory, we passed by De La Salle's Romeo Arinego library.
This is DLS Health Science Health Information laboratory for medical students. It houses 300+ computers for medical students to use during lectures and paperless examination. Although I still go for the old school reading thick medical text books and writing down notes, I was impressed how innovation and internet provide learning opportunities to every Filipino. I hope other schools would have a facility like this. With the aid of this computer, students can visualize even the tiniest cell of our body, the small microorganisms that we usually see in a microscope. Awesome!
A huge auditorium for events, lectures, classroom activities and student presentation.
Currently, De La Salle Health Science Institute offers the medical and health allied courses:
College of Medicine, BS Physical Therapy, BS Occupational Therapy, BS Nursing, Diploma in Midwifery, BS in Radiologic Technology
The De La Salle Health Science Institute (DLSHSI) was recently awarded with a grant from the Department of Science and Technology for its anti-dengue project. The project aims to explore how local indigenous medicinal plants, can be used as an alternative cure for dengue. We can't wait to see updates on these project. Congratulations to De La Salle Health Science Institute.
Moreover, De La Salle Health Science Institute (DLSHSI) offers a unique opportunity for students to experience a free Lasallian health science education. For more information, you may also visit www.dlshsi.edu.ph
So, that's how my medical field trip went on!
