The World of Super Cars

I am not really particular into cars, it is my husband who's more interested. Last weekend we spent a few hours at the World of Supercars held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. Porsche Philippines played as one of the host brands for the very first World of Supercars Motorshow alongside Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini.

On hand were Porsche’s model line-up, consisting of the 911 GT3, Maccan Turbo and Cayenne Turbo SUV’s, Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS, as well as a classic 912, a 930 Turbo and a Carrera GT, one of only three in the Philippines.

The Porsche brand has always been known for uncompromising driving performance and involvement, and their line-up of sports car definitely emphasized this. Each caters to a different segment of the sports car market, from the more life-style oriented (Boxster), to the more hard-core, track-focused driving enthusiast (911 GT3).

Lamborghini Philippines General Sales Director Erick Jarlego presented the all-new Huracan to the public, which has already amazed the international media from its launch last year.

Aventador

The Huracan and Aventador are joined by their respective predecessors, the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale, of which there are only four in the country from a limited run of 300 units, and the Lamborghini Murcielago Super Veloce 670 or LP670-SV, the only one in the country from a limited run of only 100 units worldwide.

Audi featured Hollywood-worthy rides at ‘The World of Super Cars

Ronin, the action-packed 1998 spy thriller set in France and starring Robert De Niro, featured a number of car chases participated in by 300 stunt drivers. Audi’s first-generation S8, with a naturally-aspirated V8 mated to a five-speed tiptronic, was chosen by Skipp Sudduth’s character “Larry” as an appropriate getaway car. Meanwhile, the A8 W12 is Audi’s luxurious four-door, full-size sedan amply powered by a 6.0-liter W12 serving up a robust 450hp and 580Nm. This was the choice of Jason Statham’s character Frank Martin in two of the Transporter flicks.

Marvel superhero Iron Man’s alter ego, the debonaire and suave Tony Stark, is known to have a keen taste for Audi’s exotic R8 supercar. Audi Philippines displays two of them: an R8 4.2 FSI, packing a naturally-aspirated V8, and the limited-edition R8 GT – a true LMS car for the road that is 100 kilograms lighter than the standard R8 Coupe. Coupled with a larger 5.2-liter V10, the GT musters 560hp, 540Nm, and reaches 100kph in 3.6 seconds. The R8 also appears in two other fine flicks: Fifty Shades of Grey and Taken 3.

Audi’s vehicles on display in “The World of Super Cars” also included the Audi RS6 Avant – boasting a 5.0-liter, turbocharged V10 delivering 580hp, 650Nm. It is the German carmaker’s most powerful production car yet – in an exquisitely unassuming, formal, and classy form.

Star-worthy rides all, the philosophy extends to the very able SUVs of Audi – including the compact Q3, and the bigger Q5 – both similarly motivated by 2.0-liter, turbocharged engines.

Ultra-luxe Bentleys 

The new Bentley Flying Spur V8 boasts a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged engine capable of generating 500hp of power and 660Nm of torque. These sterling numbers are harnessed through Bentley’s all-wheel drive and eight-speed quick-shift transmission. Christopher Chan, PGA Cars planning director, said at the show opening that the particular variant shares the same power plant with the Continental GT V8, and is no less luxurious and powerful than the original W12 type.

The Bentley Continental GT V8 is an elegant, exciting take on the desirable Continental GT – though it shares the obvious pedigree through the distinctively prominent bonnet line and matrix grille, along with the large inner headlamps. 

Bentley Mulsanne – named after a corner of the Le Mans racing circuit – embodies superlatives in craftsmanship and bespoke luxury. The flagship vehicle of the Bentley stable is a full-size executive sedan whose interior comfort and features are amply matched by a powerful heart. The 6.75-liter turbocharged V8, mated to an eight-speed automatic, delivers 505hp and an incredible 1020Nm.
