Ato Belen is one of the oldest farms, it's 29 year old now. The 1.2 hectare organic farm was initially a plant nursery until they became a fully-integrated and diversified farm. Would you believe that Ato Belen started the farm with a capital of P700 only? He started growing crops then added some animals later on. In 2007, they started making inputs, all-natural farming solutions such as vermiculture and effective microorganism. Three years later, they offered services and training for agriculture enthusiasts and farmers.
My First Time at Ato Belen's Farm
Our host prepared a delicious Asian dishes consist of kare-kare, sweet and sour tilapia, pata and buttered shrimp. We had of course chilled organic salad served in glass. Even if I'm still full coming from a very good brunch at Forest Wood, the food at Ato Belen tickled my appetite. Here's what I had...
After the lunch, we toured around the farm. It was very organized and neat place. We enjoyed some time in the nursery. As we go along, I saw trees growing in big gallons and huge pots. I never thought it would be possible and they really look nice. Some of their crops includes Dwarf aromatic coconut, ginger, mangosteen, pomelo, berries, lansones, rambutan and bamboo.
We met Ato Belen himself and one of his six sons who walked with us around the farm. During the conversation, I learned about their passion in agriculture and one of their mission is to support farmers and the Filipinos so that no family will get hungry. Ato Belen has mastered making organic fertilizers and feeds. These are all available in the farm, guests can even attend to their agri training and learn farming, the natural way.
Ato Belen farm now occupies 15 hecatares of land, producing hig quality fruits and vegetables. In 2010, Renato Belen was awarded the title of Magsasaka Siyentista by developing organic inputs, from fertilizer to feeds.
