Mother's Day 2015 at the Peninsula Manila |
She grew up in her grandma's care in the province of Tuguegarao and came back in Manila when she's a teenager. She met my dad who's 25 years old then. But life has many struggles. The following year my grandfather was diagnosed with bone cancer. Mama was the 2nd to the eldest of six children. I cannot imagine how difficult for her taking care of her small siblings while lola was busy with grandpa's in and out of the hospital. Aside from the fact that she's still adjusting in her new life in the city with her family.
My parents got married and they started a family but it did not work well. Unfortunately, they had to separate ways. Few years later, my dad passed away. I was 18 that time and entering 2nd year College of Nursing. Life was so difficult that time that I had to stop schooling and had to work in a local factory for a living.
Trials are Blessings in Disguise
Mama told me about a scholarship offered by the Philippine Army Finance Center Producers Integrated Cooperative (PAFCPIC). We submitted the application, because she's a civilian employee I was qualified to take the written exams and interviews. To cut the story short, I went back to college with full scholarship. It was because of her that I was able to finish my studies. I took the board exam. Graduating from a not-so popular nor big College of Nursing, everyone was astonished when I was included in the Top 20 Nursing Board Exam, sharing the spot with University of the Philippines Manila.
Let Go of Your Anger and Pains

As I grow my faith in Christianity and started reading my Bible. God's words has helped me release all the pains, disappointments, as well anger deep, deep in my heart allowing me to appreciate the people around me especially my mom. I realized how much I love her. Without her, I am not who I am today. We always fight because I grew up speaking my mind but I realized it breaks her heart.
Giving Back
All these years, I've seen how strong mama is. She has surpassed all the trials in her life. We can count on #TibayNiNanay all the time.

Mom is not getting any younger but I am thankful she's still with us until now. She's strong and healthy. I'm doing everything to make her happy, giving her the comfort and a little luxury if I can. We love going on a staycation. I'm happy to see her enjoying the benefits of traveling. We dine and enjoy good food and spa treatments together. I see to it that she receives a relaxing treat every Mother's Day and on her birthdays because that's the only way I can show my appreciation from all her sacrifices.
These little things I do is my little way of saying Thank You, Mama!
